On Saturday, 2nd March 2019, Japan Academia Club Indonesia held our own very first seminar.
In this career seminar participants got to hear about the strategies on how to work in Japanese company. The seminar not only discussed on the topic of working in Japan but also working in Japanese company in Indonesia. This seminar starts from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Auditorium room Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Science and Politics, Universitas Indonesia. This event was opened by Monica as the moderator of the seminar. It continued with an opening speech from Hina Nii as the chairman of JAC Indonesia and coordinator who introduced JAC Indonesia to participants of the seminar. The main event began with PT OS SELNAJAYA giving a thorough presentation about their company with Miss Yuka Kumagai speaking as their Marketing Advisor. They gave a video of PT OS SELNAJAYA that explained about human resources, business supports, language, and culture. The service recruitment has more than 44 thousands candidates data with maintained confidentiality. PT OS SELNAJAYA cooperates with more than 1200 companies and has opened more than 3,000 job vacancies. Recently, Japan has a shortage of productive age human resources. Due to these related reasons, it will be easier for foreigners to work in Japan starting from April 2019.
Furthermore, Mr. Ridho Ariono, who is the Senior Recruitment Consultant of PT OS SELNAJAYA, explained about Japanese Industries in Indonesia. PT OS SELNAJAYA explained that they help people to be placed on clients. In this case, the clients are companies that have connections with PT OS SELNAJAYA. He also mentioned many Japan companies from variety of industries in Indonesia such as, banking finance, technology, manufacture, consumer goods, and so on.
Miss Dini Fitriani who is the Recruitment Practitioner spoke on important things about jobs. She stated that we as job seekers must determined our goals because the number of unemployed and those looking for jobs with a background of bachelor’s degree is 630,000. Could you imagine how sad it is. The reason why the situation can turn out like is because the number of graduates who graduate every year is not comparable to the absorption of labor. Competition is getting tougher so we must determine ourselves' quality to achieve success in the future. She also informed about various kind of jobs that are available in the Japan's work industries such as sales marketing, human resources and general affairs, accounting and finance, receptionist and secretary, and so on.
Miss Dini Fitriani shared about general criterias foreign companies are looking for. First, language. Having the ability to speak english for job interviews is a must. And Japanese language most importantly if you’re a Japanese Studies graduate. Second, special skills. If you want to apply as an admin, you must be able to use Ms.Office, and etc. Third, work culture. Japanese corporate culture is different from other companies. For instance, the deadline must be on time and strict rules.
There are some capabilities that must be mastered by candidates to fulfill the needs of the Japanese companies. The most important skill to be mastered is Japanese language ability with minimum having a Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3 or N2. Next, having the ability or knowledge of other fields of work, especially mastering the minimum requirements of the positions that candidates applied for. Knowing about the work culture in Japanese companies, and to have a good work attitude.
The main requirements for candidates to have to be able to work in Japanese Company are discipline, responsibility, strong mentality, proficiency in Japanese, know Japanese culture, ability to multitask, understanding other foreign languages. Some benefits of working in Japanese companies are being able to explore candidates' work and skills. Usually Japanese companies are quite open in accepting fresh graduates as long as they want to learn, which abled them to give candidates training they need. If you get the chance, take it. Japanese companies have fair work evaluation, and very profitable benefits, a clear career path, overseas training, etc.

She also gave out useful tips for job-seekers for their job interviews. Those tips include wearing smart attires, arriving early or 15 minutes before interview, make a great impression by making sure your nails are tidy, shoes shiny and clean, and lastly be sure to make small greetings and display appropriate smile.
